Officer Lipieko from the Norfolk Police Department discussed crime over the summer. She reported 19 reported crimes, including five larceny from autos and three violent crimes: one aggravated domestic assault that ended with an arrest, one robbery from person with a knife that is under investigation and home invasion that is under investigation. She stated that the 1300-1400 13th view and Ralston were hot spots for activity over the summer. There will be a community open house October 9th at the 2nd precinct. If you want a ride to the event, contact the 2nd precinct and they will send transportation.
Don stated that VDOT is looking at changing the wording about not having interstate access when 15th view light/sign is flashing.
Rick gave a presentation about short term rentals, response to planning committee, several questions about code enforcement and how it will be enforced. There’s a presentation on the city’s website that has a table with info about what homes and number. The City planning commission is meeting about STR on Sep 27th at 2:30 PM.
Val Black from Toler Place asked for support from the Civic league to support residents’ push to keep Toler Place and 11th view disconnected. Vote will be held next month.
Steve Lehman- Coastal Clean Up- Friday 8:30 AM at the fishing pier. The Civic League received a check for $900 from the Earn commission does not have any more money, so this will be the last time we receive the money.
Flea Market will be held October 20th. Spots are 10 for members/15 for non-members. 28 out of 84 spaces are available. We need volunteers to set up and clean up.
We currently have 161 members.
The league has $8100 in the bank.
The American Legion is having their annual oyster roast and crab fest October 6. The event is $30 for all food and beverages.
NRHA Purchased 1208 Little Bay. The building was demolished. $200k was set aside in the city budget again this year to go towards the next property in Willoughby.
