Officer Jobes report: In the past 30 days there were 18 crimes. 9 were larceny from auto. 5 were larceny all others-generator, storage box, construction supplies, delivery package. 3 were auto parts, car stereo, license plates, car bra. 1 was larceny from home. 3 individuals identified in the larceny from auto. 2 have been arrested. Lock your cars!
OV St. Patrick ’s Day Parade-Library will be closed. OV beach park will be open.
Thursday March 28th starts the spring cycle of citizen’s police academy. 13 weeks for 3 hours. Call 2nd patrol or Officer Jobes for more info.
End of April-Drug takeback from 10-2 pm. At the 2nd precinct. Take any expired medication and have it disposed of properly.
Ring-Neighbors app. Text 555888 “NORFOLK VA” in all caps. Send you invite for the app to download. Area map you select. Any neighbor that posts videos of crime or dog lost will send you notification. No access to live viewing or anyone’s accounts.
Liz-American Legion Auxiliary-blood drive with American Red Cross-please sign up and give your contact information to Liz so she can get a date from the Red Cross. Location will be at the American Legion in Willoughby. Hoping for June but need 30 people to sign up so a date and location can be set.
Olga Beltzar- Department of Transit-was department of Roads. Tidewater and WOV flyover intersection project. Project scope scheduled completion is summer 2020. New sidewalk on south side of WOV will be put in as well as new bike lanes.
Phase 1-Tidewater shift from 2 to 1 lane and WOV moves over. Phase 2-Lanes shift back on WOV. Phase 3-Sping/summer 2020 close flyover.
Work hours are 7 am to sunset. Intermittent closure of sidewalks will take place. One lane traffic maintained in each direction along WOV and tidewater at all times (except during bridge demo). Message boards are out to alert of traffic pattern changes before they happen. Sign up for email lists to get notifications. Before Tidewater closure, a full public release will happen.
Andrea McClellan-Greenie’s site feedback-50/50 split between build a restaurant and keeping it an open space. City looking at various options and going from there. Personal sentiment was take it slow. No market study has been done at this time to determine the best use. The City does not want to put anything there that will not be successful. No one is interested in parking or residential spaces there.
Ocean View diner-The current occupants lease has been extended 6 months. After 6 months, the building will come down. Goal is to keep enhancing views and property values.
Dune will be replaced by Greenies.
Introducing Norfolk’s climate action plan. How do we become more energy efficient and resilient? The City is trying to get a better handle on curbside recycling. The goal will be balancing cost and environmental impact.
Help the city balance the budget. Go to www.norfolkva.abalancingact.com and provide input on how to balance the city budget.
Bike lanes on Granby- A focus group to get info and determine how to move forward has been assembled.
Nominating committee will be Bobby Hazelette, Jim McKee, Bob Parsons and Gabe Harell
Fish Fry-May 18th need volunteers for setup, cooking, and clean up.
Lee’s Friends-Drive cancer patients to their doctor’s appointments. Whatever you can do to help, we need some drivers. See Bob Parsons to sign up.
